Hudson Valley Weekend Inspiration

Imagine celebrating your birthday, anniversary, or just a weekend getaway at this gorgeous property enjoying a few days of relaxation and fun! Whether you’re local (two hours from NYC by car or train) or in from out of town, you’ll find the beautiful mountainous Hudson Valley region to be just what you need.

Troutbeck Manor House

Troutbeck Manor House

For a casual-luxe tranquil experience, head to Troutbeck in Amenia, NY.  My recent visit was on a sparkling late spring day with the property blooming in full color!  This amazing historical country retreat sits on 300 acres complete with a Manor House, Wellness Center, tennis courts, gorgeous pool, countless private spots to have a picnic, and a babbling brook running through it.  Troutbeck underwent a renovation a few years back and the design by Champalimaud Design has somehow seamlessly married historical details with beautiful contemporary updates.  The rooms all have king beds with frette linens, some with fireplaces and the multiple guest lodgings throughout the property allow for as much privacy as you’d like.

You can while away a summer or fall afternoon reading by the water, lounging by the pool or relaxing in the walled garden.  If you’re more adventurous, you can go fly fishing on a nearby river, skeet shooting at nearby Orvis, experience falconry first hand, or for the cyclists or tricyclists, the 15 mile Harlem Valley Rail Trail provides a safe path for biking or running.  You can also opt for a tour of nearby Hillrock Distillery or Millbrook winery.  Any season would be beautiful in this place.

You don't need to search for a nearby restaurant when the Michelin starred chef, Gabe McMackin, creates amazing seasonal, locally sourced menus.  All meals are served wherever you feel most comfortable.  My smoked fried chicken lunch with wild hive biscuits and honey butter was simply unforgettable. If you’re the grazing type, the Pantry is stocked all day long with drinks and snacks for your room, picnic or trip home.

When you’re ready for a little exploring, a day trip to the neighboring town of Millerton wouldn't be complete without a visit to Harney & Sons where you can explore more than 200 kinds of tea and shop for unique gifts.  The town also boasts boutique gift shops including antique stores, Oblong bookstore and Irving Farm Coffee House.  If you’re ready to book this fabulous property for a nearby getaway contact me!
